EARLY SEASON MAILBAG November 20, 1999   Hoops, Do you think Lamond Murray is worth picking up? He has been activated? Will he see significant time? Who would you have on your team: Murray, Snow, or Fox? Jeff Jeff, Right now I would take Snow over the other guys and keep an eye on Murray for when he gets to 30+ mpg. Forget about Fox since Kobe will be back soon. Hoops, Someone in my league is offering me Dikembe Mutombo for a C or FC. I have Divac and Gatling as my centers. I was thinking of letting Gatling go. What would you do. I know Mutombo is a very solid player with a high % shot, blocks, and rebs. I'm also thinking of cutting C. Mobley for either B. Sura or A. Griffin. Griffin is so far a better all around player as far as stats. I definitely want to release him, but don't know which guy to pick up. Thanks for your help. Jason "JayZ" Jason, I would cut Mobley for Griffin. Trading for Mutombo is OK depending on who you give up. Just dropping Gatling may not be a good move right now considering the numbers he is putting up - but in Orlando playing time is hard to come by and that may end up reducing Gatlings value. I would trade Gatling for Mutombo though. Divac is a good player for your team considering how Sacramento seems to always score high. Hi, Could you give me advise on my fantasy dilemma? I have a fairly good fantasy team, with nice guards (Wesley, knight, Bibby, Francis, Mercer), good forwards (Garnett, abdur-rahim, g.hill, Kukoc, Odom). But then my troubles start. I have 3 centers, LaFrentz, Doleac, Ewing. You can see what my problem is! I heard before the season that Doleac could turn into the next Laimbeer, but until this day I can hardly see the resemblance. My question is, should I already give up on Doleac or do you think his stats will improve? There isn't much available in the free agent pool, except for DeClercq, E. Johnson and maybe Ostertag. What should I do? Should I dump Doleac for DeClercq or trade one or more of my players for a center. In case of a trade, which of my players could I best trade away? Thanks in advance for helping me out! Eric Eric, By all means dump Doleac - with Amaechi playing ok his fantasy value is limited. Consider DeClercq or even Oliver Miller or Nesterovic. Even Ostertag is OK for blocks. Note Ewing may be back to rescue you in Dec. MacCulloch had been OK but his playing time is erratic lately. Hoops, I have been using Battie as my center. He has had one good game but otherwise has been very disappointing. I picked him based on your initial custom report listing him for me as #59. Coleman, DeClercq, Potapenko, Othella, and Harrington are available. Any suggestions whether I should drop him and pick up one of the other guys? John John I hate it when I blow one but I was wrong about Battie - I think he fooled the Celtics too who signed him to an extension before the season. I would go with Harrington first ASAP! Hoops I'm in a 12 team league and I'm in first place very comfortably. My roster looks like this: C: Hakeem & Fieck (I do have Jayson Williams on my 4man reserve roster), F: Kemp, Othella, Horace Grant, Gatling, Lynch, &Nowitski (except for Kemp I simply insert the 3 other guys that have the most games played for the upcoming week, if there is a tie I just go for best talent), G: Payton, D. Armstrong, Wesley, Derek Anderson, & Bobby Sura (again, if Sura has more games than somebody other than Payton I will insert him). Thus far I've built about a 110 rebound lead over the next guy, about a 40assist lead, a 25 steal lead, and am in a dog fight with two other teams for the scoring lead -it flip flops between the three of us almost every night. The only stat I'm in the middle of the pack in is blocks. After the draft I thought my team was good but I guess I was comparing it to the 8 team league that I'm used to. For a 12 team league my team is dominant. Should I be worried about Baron Davis taking away from Wesley? I read every where that Silas loves Wesley and I see Baron as a raw rookie but I still hear the whispers once in a while. What do you think? Joseph Joseph, I am not worried about Wesley. He is a veteran and Davis should not be a significant factor off the bench. I suspect he may have some injury problems too. Hoops, What is the problem with CATO!!! I thought he had a pretty good preseason and was ecstatic to get him as a top reserve to compliment my center position. He's only playing 14 -18 minutes per game. Is he in the doghouse? Has his new contract made him lazy? Does Rudy not like him?? Maybe he's not getting IT???? Chet Chet, I was disappointed to not get Cato in my draft but then was able to pick him up when his initial owner dropped him. But I too have found that Cato is not matching his preseason performances. He was given a chance to start when Barkley was suspended he couldn't deliver then either. Part of this could be because Cato is folding in the more intense regular season games and the other part could be the Rockets overall miserable play so far. I would suggest dropping Cato and picking up a promising free agent. Keep your eye on Cato though to see if he wakes up. Hoops, Your daily updates are great! I want your opinion on a possible trade tomorrow. MY team is V. Carter, G. Hill, Phills, Brand, Feick, Hughes, Francis, Jason Williams, Maxwell, J. Jackson, Strickland, Best, Wells, Camby, McCoy, DeClerq, Battie. The team in my league needs DeClerq (they had Ilgauskas) and I want Stoudamire. Is DeClercq and Hughes or Jackson or E. Strickland... for Stoudamire and a throw in like Manning fair! Also, whats up with Brand and Hughes, they have been awful. Thanks alot, Scott Scott, Seeing as Stoudamire is not getting huge playing time offering DeClerq and any one of the three you mentioned is fair. I would try to keep Hughes and offer E. Strickland in the deal. Hughes for some reason hasn't been getting lots of playing time. The night he did start though he had a career high of 27 pts. I am confident he has to much talent to struggle like this for long. Brand will have off nights.
