Hello, what is up with Darrell Armstrong he has just been horrible the last 2 weeks there was one game where he went out at 7:45 of the 1st quarter and returned with 8 sec left in the HALF, this chucky Atkins cant be good enough to keep Darrell on the bench? Is there a problem between him and Doc Rivers? Weeks ago he was probably the 4th best point guard out there but know I cant even play him? Let me know your thoughts for a possible turnaround or an explanation.

Thanks,
Michael

Over the last five games Armstrong is averaging around 28 mpg which is not too far off his 31 mpg season average. It was brought down a bit by reduced time in the SA blowout. I think it is just a cyclical down period for him and he will be productive again. I don't believe there is a problem between him and Doc.

Would you trade Vince Carter and Geiger/Ervin Johnson for Jason Williams and Antonio Davis?

Ben

I think the upgrade of Carter over Williams out weighs the loss in Antonio Davis versus the other guys and would do the deal.

Hoops,

I'm already looking to next season in my keeper league, with an eye on acquiring young potential stars. Allan Houston is a player I'm looking to deal. While he puts up pretty good scoring numbers, as you know, he does little in the A, R, S categories. In other words, he may seem to other teams to be have more value than he actually does. Am I crazy? Do you think he'll blossom when Patrick retires and/or Spree leaves? Who might you target? Both Larry Hughes and Tim Thomas have been dangled. Any thoughts?

Steve

I like the idea of trading Houston. I think he is having a career year and it won't get better after Ewing. Thomas hasn't shown the type of progress you want to see in a young player and Hughes might be following the same path. I think you could get/want than just one of these guys - A player like Camby or Brand or Jamison might be better targets.

I was offered Kukoc for Stackhouse in basic scoring league (P,A,R,S,B minus turnovers; no percentages). Do you like Kukoc? Is he a free agent next year/ motivated to produce and stay healthy down the stretch?

Kukoc is a free agent at the end of this year as are most Bulls as the owner wanted lots of cast at the end of this season. At this time their ratings are similar but I do question the health of Kukoc. Would prefer Stack.

Hello. I'm currently in a basketball league where I'm racking up the pts and have a 200pt lead on 2nd place. The format gives us 1pt for every pt, rebound, and assist, 3 for each steal and block. Right now my only weak spots are center although I have Hakeem stepping in to replace Lafrentz. Other then that, my only concern is starting Kukoc at forward which scares me if a trade is made. How well do you think Kukoc will perform under this league structure and what is the possibility of him being trade although he has made European basketball a clear possibility for next year?

Jim

Kukoc should do well for the scoring system you stated. There is a possibility of him being traded. The following is taken from the Bulls TSN team report: "Unfortunately, Kukoc, 31, may be considered too old by the Bulls' management to build around. Krause still hasn't told Kukoc or his agent that he is interested in re-signing Kukoc this summer even after Kukoc stated publicly that he wants to stay with the Bulls. There are those who feel that the Bulls will use Kukoc's impressive showing to shop him and trade him for younger prospects. But since the Bulls are not expected to land any of the top free agents, if they are serious about rebuilding, there's no more talented a free agent available for young players to learn from than Kukoc."

I have just been proposed a trade in the other guy wanted me to give him Lamar Odom in exchange for me getting Dirk Nowitzki, do you think I should accept?

Robert

I would want to be the one getting Lamar Odom.

Keep up the daily writing! It's very informative. I am in a 4 man, 12 team, head to head keeper league. My team is well balanced with point guards like Payton and Bibby, Scoring Guards like Miller, Sura, and Jackson. Scoring Forwards like Howard, Rahim, C. Robinson. Power Forwards and Centers like A.Davis, D. Davis, Walker and B. Grant. I was offered A. Jamison for D.Davis or A.Davis and my 8th round pick next year. I was thinking of getting Jamison and holding next year as one of my 4 keepers. (Walker, Payton, Rahim and Jamison) I believe he will only get better as the year goes on. My question is what are your thoughts on Jamison for the long term? Do you think he is worth keeping in a league this size? Do you think this is a good trade?

Thanks,
George

I like the Jamison for Dale Davis is trade. Jamison has scored over 20 pts in his last seven games and Davis is struggling for playing time with Austin Croshere. Regarding the keeper decision, I might favor Bibby over Jamison since Jamison really hasn't consistently given much for ast, stl, or bl yet. Bibby can give ast, st, treys, in addition to some points.

I have the chance to trade Alan Henderson straight up for Damon Stoudamire. I really need assists and have a bit of gap room below more in the rebounds category. Damon's numbers are not even close to what he used to do. Is it just a slow start or is he really a 14 point, 5 BD assist guy this year?

I think Damon will continue to match his past performance from this season. This trade should help your assists a little. 5 per game isn't much but it is good enough to rank 25th in the league now. Stoudamire also can get a trey per game if a category in your league. I have never cared much for Henderson. Gets some points and decent boards but not much else.

Here's one that's a little puzzling. I was offered David Robinson for Houston. I'm intrigued (although I realize last night was an aberration). What do you think?

I just checked the rankings for these players for your PARSB league. Robinson is 17 and Houston 106. Considering the extra value of Robinson's position looks like a huge steal to get Robinson. Houston can give you P but not much ASRB.

Hello, I enjoy reading your web page all the time. I have a quick question. I was just offered a trade, I will get Jason Kidd and will give up Vince Carter. Is this a good trade? I am leading my league in scoring and free throws but I need the help with assists. Is this wise? We are scored on Pts, Stls, Rebs, FT, 3ptrs, Asts, FG%, Blks. Please let me know what you think.

Thank you,
Eric

Looks like a good/fair trade which will help you with your goal of improving assists.

I just traded Kemp and Rice for Abdur Rahim...what do you think? Also, do you think Sean Elliot will have any value if he comes back this year?

I like the trade for Rahim since it also gave you the opportunity to get a free agent. I don't think the trade was an absolute steal though since Kemp and Rice at least can score a decent amount of points. I would not expect Elliot to have value this season.

1/20/00

I was wondering what you think about this trade? David Robinson and Shandon Anderson and in return I get Reggie Miller and OthellaHarrington. My league looks at FG%, 3-pts made, blks, stls, rebs, FT's-made, ast, and pts. scored.

Angelo

With the way Robinson is playing now it would be tough to let him go although you would be adhering to the philosophy of selling high. I also have concerns about the consistency of Harrington but the fact you only would be giving up Anderson would make that OK. I would think this trade is OK if we assume Robinson goes back to average production otherwise you might regret it.

1/21/00

I just traded Mourning, Vince Carter, and Tracy Mcgrady for Malone, Marbury (quietly been shooting 47% over the last few weeks), and Jalen Rose. Any thoughts?

Jim

You will look pretty smart if Mourning does go down which would be totally consistent with his past. I hope you don't regret the deal watching Vince make the highlights every game he plays and hope that Marbury doesn't go back go chucking air balls.

Hi Hoops,

I'm now tied for 1st with Eddie Jones back in my lineup. I am in second place in blocks and rebounds with a bit of cushion against the teams below. I'm in 8th place in assists and 7th place in 3's with room to move and I've been offered Darrell Armstrong for Antonio Davis. Is this a no-brainer? Thanks for your help.

This would seem to be a good trade if you can weather the Orlando playing rotations. Realize that Darrell is averaging only 4.8 apg over the last 10 games but that is better than Antonio. Armstrong should get you at least a trey per game and get a couple steals.

1/22/00

Would you take a chance on an veteran like Hakeem Olajuwon who is coming back from surgery? The deal is for point guard Rod Strickland who has been playing great lately especially since Michael Jordan has joined Wizards. I'm in ten team league with 8 categories (FG%,FTM,3PTS,RBS,ASTS,STLS,BLKS,TotalPTS). I currently in second place overall but only 5.5pts separate the top five teams. I'm currently 9th in BLKS, 8th in RBS, 1st in STL, 3rd in Asts, 1st in Total Pts, 5th in 3PTS, 2nd in FTM and 4 in FG%. I have Bibby, Francis, Dickerson, Jimmy Jackson, Brent Barry, Vince Carter, Adbur-Rahim, Rasheed Wallace, Alan Henderson and Jahidi White. Let me know what you think.

I think Jordan will light a fire under Strickland and would keep him over Olajuwan at this point even though Olajuwan does the things your team needs.

Out of these four potential FA pickups, who is the best (please rank) and why?

  • Brent Barry
  • Kenny Thomas
  • Austin Croshere
  • Larry Hughes

If treys are a category in your league then Brent Barry by a landslide (Getting 2.2 treys per game over last ten games - the absence of Maxwell has helped) He also often gets 5+ ast and reb from the shooting guard spot. Also shoots 90% from the line (just like Dad).

2- Austin Croshere - But has the liability of really being a backup to Dale Davis.

3 - Larry Hughes - Best not to assume he will have a big jump in fantasy value in a trade.

4 - Kenny Thomas - The return of Cato (and Hakeem) might makes minutes hard to come by again for him.

What do you think of any of the following player? They are available in our league and I have 2 open roster spots? Ike Austin, Bimbo Coles, Shawn Marion, Bo Outlaw, Vonteego Cummings Do you think any will be traded? Do you think any will benefit from a trade? Do you have any inside scoops on pending trades? DO you have any sleeper players for the second have?

George

Of the group you mention would favor Outlaw at this point followed by Cummings. Outlaw has gotten some playing time lately and can help with bl, st, and reb. I don't think Austin and Coles have much potential and would not hold my breath on Marion coming back with the value he had at the beginning of the season.
