I am in a 4 man keeper league with a head to head format. For point guards I have Payton and Bibby as my main starters. I have already clinched my division and a first round playoff bye. I have a chance to get Marbury, however it will cost me Payton. I was thinking of doing the trade. I don't think I loose anything when it comes to points and assists. I do gain a big advantage when it comes to age, especially being in a keeper league. What do you think? Would you trade Payton for Marbury? What do you think of Marbury's future in the NBA?

Marbury will be (and almost is now) a superstar. I think if this is a serious keeper league trading Payton for Marbury is a GREAT move!

Hi Hoops,

My only real 3point threats Clifford and Sura are either Hurt or ICE cold. So I was thinking of dropping Griffin for a 3point shooter. I have the choice between; Lenard, Kittles or Person. So can you tell me which player to take?!?...Kittles is on waivers so he's gonna be difficult to attain. But Person looks awfully good.

Thanks,
Daniel T.

PS do you think that Griffin can return to his early season form?!? Or is he finished?

Person seems a natural addition until Sura returns. Would not count on Griffin returning to form. I think it's a combination of ankle, rookie wall, and defenses wising up to him.

Hey HoopsKlyce,

I've been offered Stackhouse for Kittles and Andre Miller. What is the status of B. Knight? Is he going to play anytime soon? The trade seems like a no-brainer, but I'm weak in 3pts, assist and stls. I made a counteroffer of Ceballos and Stoudamire for Paul Pierce. Pierce adds 3pts and stls and I get to keep Miller who I think might have wrestled the job from Knight. Any thoughts???

Kittles has been playing like dog meat and you wouldn't need to worry about Knight returning anymore. Of course you would run a risk of Miller becoming Mr. triple double - I would make the trade anyway though.

Hi,

I'm playing in the USA today league and looking for a bargain forward/center player to replace Antawn Jamison. I was thinking of Indiana's Austin Croshere or Washington's Jahidi White which comes quite cheap. Which one should I select ? Thanks.

With Mike Smith injured, I like Jahidi White. Croshere has been playing OK with Smits out but I give the nod to White at this time.

HoopsKlyce,

I have Bobby Sura on my ESPN team. Obviously his current situation is killing me. When he gets healthy do you think he can match his pre-injury numbers or is Wes Person a fixture now? I am thinking of cutting him, and rotating guys in and out of his spot in my line-up on a nightly basis.

Thanks,
Jeff

I don't think Bob Sura will match his pre-injury numbers but I also don't think Person is a fixture. It may be that Person and Sura end up making each other mediocre, but I would not at this time waive Sura. Why not put him on your IR or try to trade him away.

I recently traded Rider and Divac for Duncan. I need a little help in rebounds (especially offensive). I need a lot of help in blocks and FG%. Do you think my needs were fulfilled with this acquisition based on the information I have given you? Also, because the deal was a 2 for 1, I have an open roster spot. I am thinking of picking up Hornacek or Lamond Murray or Mo Taylor. Hornacek would replace Rider's threes and improve my FG% and FT% even more. Murray and Taylor are both similar players, so if I wasn't to go with Hornacek, which would be a better choice? But of the three, who would you recommend?

Thanks again. You've been a big help.

I like Murray. He can do a little of everything and has been scoring nearly 20 ppg lately. Hornacek may wear down in March and April and Taylor does not do much more than score.

Donyell Marshall or Lamond Murray, who should I pick up. Both players were very inconsistent in the first half of the season, but during the last month, they've been doing very well. Of course, I want to get the guy who is going to remain consistent, so who do you think that will be? Or, if they both keep up this recent good play? And if they do, who would be better to get?

They both have been playing well. The only thing of concern about their future potential is that I read Marshall has been playing with some torn cartilage in his chest. Other than that you could pick Marshall if you need rebounds more and Murray if you need points more.

Hi - I was wondering if you could help us with an issue that came up in our league. We play in a 10 team, head-to-head league, where each owner has 8 starters (2 centers, 3 forwards and 3 guards), and the scoring is: pts+reb+steals+2xassists+2xblocks-turnovers. There is a 3 person trade committee which approves each trade, based on whether a trade is grossly unfair to one owner.

Team A has the following team: L.Hughes, T.Brandon, Van Exel, E.Jones, E.Brand, R.Wallace, Mourning, Olajuwon (starters), Starks, A.Miller, Kukoc & Dampier (reserves). Team A is 14-3, tied for the best record in the league.

Team B has: L.Hunter, J.Williams, K.Anderson, Ceballos, Garnett, Finley, Polynice, T. Hill (starters), Strickland, R.Miller, B.Russell & Potapenko (reserves). Team B is 9-8, tied for the last playoff spot.

Team A proposed to trade R.Wallace, Olajuwon and A. Miller to Team B for Garnett, and Team B accepted. The trade committee unanimously voted to reject the trade, because it didn't appear to help Team B at all, and greatly helped Team A, which would basically walk right to the championship. Team A is incensed that we rejected the trade. What do you think of this trade? Unfair? Is this the type of trade a trade committee should reject? Does Team A have the right to be this angry at our decision?

Your comments would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Team B would need to waive two players to make the deal. Presumably Potapenko and Polynice. You are right in that this trade would not help team B although you use the term 'grossly unfair'. Not sure it approaches that level - but it does appear 'somewhat stupid' for team B. I recommend letting the whole league vote in the future.

Hoops,

In a P,A,R,S,B,3's,FG%,FT% rotisserie league. My most glaring weakness is in fg% but I'm close enough I can catch 3 or 4 people ahead of me in that category if I can get on a good run. I offered Sam Cassell and Antonio Davis for Andre Miller and Theo Ratliff. The counter offer was the same only with me giving up Kevin Garnett for Grant Hill. So... it is now Garnett, Cassell, and Davis for Hill, Ratliff, and Miller. What do you think? my standings in the other categories are as follows:

Andre Miller has recently been playing at the level of Cassell although this may not be long term. Theo Ratliff has been playing much better than Davis. For a forward Hill has a strength in assists but you are already ten there. Giving up Cassell would balance that out but he is decent in fg% for a guard. Garnett has a strength in fg% which is your weakness. I don’t see how the modified trade will help your fg% problem. Van Horn is one of you fg% culprits so maybe you can re-work the deal involving him somehow. How about Cassell and Van Horn for Hill and maybe a throw in or no one and get a free agent.

Hello,

Thanks for all the good information you've provided me. I have a question. I been offered this trade and I'm not sure if I should do it. They want me to give up Donyell Marshall and Toni Kukoc and I get Vince Cater and Kenny Thomas. My league's scoring is (points+2R+2A+3S+3B-1turnover) Is this a good deal for me? I want Carter but am I giving up too much?

What do you think?
Jon

To get Vince this deal seems OK. Marshall has been playing over his head so you could cash out. Kukoc has turned into a role player for the Sixers although if Tyrone Hill is hurt it could help Kukoc. You might want to take a shot at upgrading Thomas, but the deal seems OK.
