EASTERN CONFERENCE PLAYOFFS

Notes from the Eastern Conference Playoffs (May 26, 2001)

Alvin Williams was given 40+ minutes of playing time in 12 games in the playoffs. He averaged 14 pts, 4 ast, and 1.2 steals. As an added bonus he blocked 8 shots which is great for a guard. Williams showed trremendous improvement in his game last season and has the potential to develop into an above average fantasy player. He is currently a free agent.

Surprisingly Pat Garrity averaged 29 mpg in 4 playoff games. He is a shooter who doesn’t do much more than hit three point shots. But if you are in a roto league with three pointers he is a player who may be worth having as a reserve next season. He hit 47% FG in the playoffs while rookie of the year Mike Miller shot only 39.6% in the playoffs.

Eddie House was second in scoring for the Heat in the playoffs at 12.7 ppg. He could emerge next season since Hardaway will most likely struggle again with injuries leaving only Anthony Carter to compete with for playing time.

Austin Croshere got over 30 mpg in the playoffs but shot only 40% as his poor shooting from the regular season continued. Next season Croshere will be battling with Al Harrington for playing time at their natural power forward position. Harrington played only 13 mpg in the playoffs.

Kurt Thomas averaged 14 pts and 11 reb in the playoffs with Larry Johnson injured. Thomas may take over the starting power forward position for the Knicks next season.

Look for Baron Davis continue on his path to fantasy superstardom next season. In the playoffs he averaged 18 pts, 2.8 st, 2.0 treys, 6 ast, and 48% FG.

With George Lynch out Jumaine Jones has had more opportunities to play and show his athleticism. He has offensive skills the Sixers badly need (since they traded Kukoc) but he has struggled at times shooting 414% FG including only 16.7% from three point range. He is a talented young player who I feel will eventually win a starting position but it may not be next year.

So far Ray Allen has hit 40 treys in 13 playoff games at 49.4%. He is shooting 50.5% from the field and 88.3% from the line to average 25 points per game. In my mind he is the best shooter in the league at this time.
